Cheltenham Open Day 2 preview
Champagne West rescued the blog yesterday and is as short at 16/1 for the RSA in March. Next Sensation was disappointing and needs to find the bold front running zest of last season. Balthazar King stole the show however and is now firmly ensconced as as a jump fans hero.
On to today.
Golden Jubilee’ s win at Sedgefield doesn’t amount to much but he could progress now he has got his head in front. Verano could also reward each way backers ridden by Gavin Sheehan if benefiting from his last run.
Another fascinating novice chase with 4 previous winners taking on chasing debutant Kings Palace who looks a short price in the circumstances. Sausalito Sunrise looks the safest bet, with Creepy an obvious danger. Knock House looks a big price given the plaudits earned by his victory at Fakenham.
14 runners line up for this test of stamina but few make appeal. Lamb or Cod should be in the first 3 but I like the look of Sam Winner who is one if my 50 to follow.
By contrast its hard to rule many out of the fiercely competitive Paddy Power chase. Present View was my ante post pick after winning at the Festival and nothing since has dampened my enthusiasm. Buywise was another I had a small ante post wager on and should go close. Persian Snow, Acid Du Berlais and Indian Castle complete my 50 to follow horses and a case can be made for each.
Big Easy is the obvious pick after his Cesarewitch victory. Dawn Commander could reward each way backers if acting on the ground. Pineau Du Re will probably need the run and his national winning jockey Leighton Aspel interestingly rides Dragons Den.
I will take a watching brief on the juvenile hurdle at 3.35.
Willie Mullins Darling Carlotta may be different class but I prefer Warren Greatrex trained Miss,Estela whoops a course and distance winner. Chezzy e/w Is one of my 50 to follow and could slip under the radar at big odds given his seasonal debut can be dismissed.
