Cheltenham Festival – day 4 preview
Three stars of the show for me yesterday. Vautour shows himself to be a giant with the most impressive jumping display you’ll ever see. Despite backing Don Poli for the 2016 Gold Cup I’ve a feeling he’ll be struggling to match Vautour up the Cheltenham Hill next year.
Not far behind for being spectacular was Uxizandre under an inspired ride from AP. Sadly my ante post wager on Ma Filleule was thwarted albeit she ran a cracking race of her own.
And then came Cole Harden who I took to my heart when seeing him run so boldly at the Festival last year and have believed him ever since. Yesterday my faith was duly rewarded (28.0 on Betfair last week) with a stunning front running performance in the World hurdle under Gavin Sheehan. Great credit to Warren Greatrex too. The first of many Cheltenham winners I hope.
Sam Winner is another horse I admire for his heart and tenacity and in a wide open Hold Cup I’m going to have him as my main selection. Silviniaco Conti and Smad Place could follow him home.
Not a great fan of the Triumph hurdle but take Peace and Co, Dicosimo and Matorico at divergent prices.
Cheltenian looks a solid each way bet in the County hurdle, Baltimore Rock and the outsider Lightening Rod could go close.
Value at Risk can give Dan Skelton his first festival winner. Fletcher a Flyer and Shantou Bob could be placed
Paint The Clouds and Muirhead are my tentative picks in the Foxhunters.
Shelford is a horse I’ve followed this season and can strike ahead of McKinley and Noble Endeavour
Bellenos is another Skelton horse I’ve followed this year and he has apparently had this race in mind for him. Brick Red, Eastlake and Next Sensation for the places.
