Noddy Holder’s not just for Christmas

Finally shook hands with one of my all time heroes Noddy Holder last night 34 years after last seeing him in the flesh.

On that occasion I was  near the front at Sheffield City Hall but Noddys hand stayed just out of reach as Slade said their goodbyes at the end of a typically brilliant live performance.

Noddy was promoting his latest book at the Crown Hotel as part of the Harrogate Literature Festival.

He was in good form relaying tales from both his time in Slade and his life since.

He’s remained down to earth and a real crowd pleaser and had the capacity crowd in the palm of his hand answering questions from his adoring fans.

I’ve often wondered if life away from performing in a band would be fulfilling enough for him but last night I was left in no doubt that he’s doing exactly what he enjoys.

He clearly has few regrets but the mention of a possible acoustic album left fans with a glimmer of hope that we may yet see him perform albeit solo once more.

As he said in his trademark way at the end “Keep on Rockin'”

An excellent evening and a very well organised event.
