Cheltenham – The Open meeting – day 1

Day 1 of the 3 day Open Meeting at Cheltenham sees some potentially very useful novice chasers line up led by former World Hurdle winner More Of That. Lack of a run following his lay off leans me towards As De Mee who lost little in defeat behind Cocktails At Dawn at Chepstow last month, jumping impressively for a novice. Ballyaton was a very decent novice hurdle but unseated his rider on his chasing debut and Dell A’Arca runs under a penalty.

Minnella Present could take the opener for Neil Mulholland where Lough Kent rates the danger.

Penglai Pavilion will be a warm order in the 3rd race but I go with Shantou Village to follow up his Carlisle hurdling debut for my 50 to follow and complete a double for Mulholland.

Sire Collonges is not the most consistent but is worth an each way interest of the Cross Country course where Josies Orders is probably a more solid bet.

A Hare Breath has been very well supported in the fifth race despite his lengthy absence. However Mon Successeur switches to hurdles after finishing second in a novice chase at Wetherby and could be well handicapped.

In the finale Knock House will be fancied to fulfil promise shown do far but Super Duty is an each way fancy ridden by top amateur Derek O’ Connor
