The least said about yesterday’s punting the better. At least I saw the might Bantams win 4-0 to soften the blow.

Cue Card 20151031Cue Card after winning the Charlie Hall in 2015

It’s Charlie Hall day where the outcome of the feature event hinges on Cue Card being as good as he was last year. All the vibes from connections are that he is and if so he should see off some ole rivals and young pretenders.

The bet365 hurdle is by contrast wide open with at least 6 of the 7 runners not easy to dismiss. Ballyoptic is still progressive however and may well justify favouritism and cement his World Hurdle credentials.

Holly Bush Henry is a strong fancy to make a winning chase debut in the opener.

Cheltenham and Kelso 22/10/16

Fox Norton after finishing 3rd in the Arkle chase in March.

Thomas Campbell and a couple of places horses in the 5.05 were all I had to show for my efforts on day 1 of the Cheltenham meeting. Aristo Du Plessis and Cottersrock were particularly disappointing on the quick ground.

Tagliatelle 4.05 returns to hurdling after losing confidence over fences and along with Shantou Village 4.40 runs for my 50 to follow today.

Kempton 16/10/16

A late flurry of winners for the blog yesterday returned a small profit after a very slow start. Little Windmill jumped for fun to win at Stratford whilst Woodfort looks a decent recruit for Nigel Twiston Davies winning the bumper at Ffos Las. Ravenhill Road was by all accounts impressive in wining a bumper at Market Rasen.

One thing I did forecast correctly was that it would rain at Ffos Las during racing … But then it usually does.

Today at Kempton Mister Miyagi and Ravens Tower run for my 50 to follow.

2.00 Cliffs of Dover

Chepstow 09/10/16

Great day for the blog yesterday with 5 winners at Chepstow (including all 3 of my 50 to follow horses ) and 3 at Hexham.

Sad to hear Henry Brooke had to be airlifted from Hexham and the jumping community wish him a full and speedyv recovery. Once again this highlights just how brave jump jockeys are and how they deserve our respect at all times.

I’m hoping Voix D’eau and Potters Corner will make if 5/5 for the fifty to follow at Chepstow this afternoon.

Chepstow and Hexham 08/10/16

Virgilio was the star at Newton Abbot yesterday putting in a slick jumping display that suggests he could  go far as a chaser.

Today is the traditional first day of the jump season proper and Chepstow doesn’t disappoint whilst there is an interesting card at Hexham.

Ballyoptic, Rock The Kasbah and Colin’s Sister represent my 50 to follow but none are shoe ins on their seasonal debuts.
