You’re Fired to get the flat off to a bang in the Lincoln

Yorkshire trained You’re Fired is my  main hope in the Lincoln at Doncaster to get my flat season off to the best possible start as did Gabrial in this event 12 months ago.

Birdman is my saver albeit he appears to be David O’Mearas second string.

Over the jumps Morning Reggie, Duke Street and Benvolio are my picks at Newbury. Dormello Mo looks to have a decent chance in the Kelso novice chase and Zephyros Bleu is my nap at Uttoxeter, where Sue Smith could have a double with Special Wells and Good Vibrations

Can Cogry finally Hatch today?

Fresh from his success on Blaklion Ryan Hatch can finally get Cogry to deliver on the big day in today’s Midland Grand National. He looks to have a solid chance along with Sizing Coal for last year’s winning connections.

After a for once profitable Cheltenham with 13 winners and numerous placed horses it’s steady as you go with today’s more modest fayre.

Cheltenham – The Open meeting – day 2

It’s difficult to switch on to racing today after the dreadful events in Paris last night. My thoughts are with all those effected by this barbaric attack.

Yesterday’s racing saw at least one future star emerge with Shantou Village an impressive winner who will surely make a bold bid for glory back at Cheltenham next March.

Today there are some competitive handicaps to unravel not least the Paddy Power chase. I backed Oscar Rock after his convincing win at Market Rasen at the end of September. I see no reason to change my main selection. Irish Cavalier is a clear danger as he is not fully exposed. I desert Present View with a heavy heart but he seems to have lost his way for now.

Arguably the 3 mile 3 furlongs Murphy Group chase is even more competitive than the feature event.
Audacious Plan looks sure to run well whilst Le Reve is a favourite of mine but has never won on a left hand track. However Cogry (pictured above) is well regarded and at 6 has scope to win this off 10-8.

Vintage Vinnie whilst not the highest rated hurdler in the field is taken to win the class 2 novice e chase where Un Temps Pour Tout will be well backed on his chasing debut.

Trainer David Pipe may have more luck with Batavir and Herbert Park in later events.

The cards at Wetherby and Uttoxeter are short on quality and Noel Fehily should make his trip to the latter worthwhile.

Today’s selections –

John Blance Racing

Jumped slowly in rear: a meander through the world of the staying handicap chase.
